Daydream
In the place of that which never existed, nothing
And so you go -
A knife through the butter,
That couldn't melt in your mouth,
Turn - your back,
More's the pity,
Or all the better -
Into nothing.
In a while,
Your presence will be lonely,
But for the moment it's lovely,
The silver lining,
My clouded recollection,
Reaches to forget,
And so you go.
You fade away,
It matters briefly and less and less,
Image sizzling in the heat-hazed afternoon,
A cloudless blaze,
Defined by absence,
Time drifts by,
In a while.
Into nothing,
The absence extends beyond,
What existed but in the whisper of a moment,
Until once more,
We might cross,
And then again,
You fade away.
